All that Jazz

I was sick all day Sunday..

Monday.. I was still not feeling that great but studied for my 4 finals I have this week..

then I get a phone call from Dane..

our friends invited us to the Jazz game that night and immediately I said we had to go..

probably not the best decision for a sick&finals week.

but I am glad we went.
(i stayed up til 3 studying for my test the next day and to my surprise i was feeling so much better. maybe the trick is less sleep..)

We had such a great time with our friends Parker and Whitney

I have never been to a Jazz game but I loved it. 

I am starting to become a Jazz fan.. mostly because of D-Will.

i love spending time with him :)

Birthday

My birthday was a couple of weeks ago.. turned 22!

dane had everything planned for weeks and had wonderful surprises for that week.

On my birthday he made me waffles before we left for class and work and his mom brought me lunch while I was working, so sweet :)

That night we came home and opened presents from him and my family

he picked out boots for me and I loved them (but i have abnormally large calves so it was difficult to get my leg in. we are still looking for a pair of boots ..) my parents sent me a cute outfit and rainboots that i love and brooke also got my a cute outfit. My family is the best thanks and love you!

Now for the surprise...

Dane told me we would be going to dinner Thursday night with our friends Jaci and Reily (Jaci and I have the same birthday) 

Dane was coming home from work when he called and said "Don't ask any questions. Go downstairs, unlock the door and you might want to pick up"

I had no idea who was coming over..

I hear my door open and tiptoes coming up the stairs and I see these people with big hoods on and have no clue who it could have been. 

then they turned around..

it was some girls from my volleyball team

It was such a great surprise! 

I love and miss hanging out with these girls. We caught up before we left for dinner and in the restaurant are more girls from the team! It was such a wonderful surprise and Dane planned out everything. He set up the dinner and contacted everyone, there was around 30 people there. 

I loved this birthday :) and felt so special! Thanks to everyone for making it such a wonderful birthday!

Now : I have 4 finals and a presentation this week to get ready for and I am sick!! perfect timing. I came down with something Sunday and feeling miserable just in time to take on finals.

I can't wait for this week to be over and to head home with my family. I am ready for a sunny/warm weather/no snow Christmas

That time of year again..

It's Rivalry week.

The end of the football season is bittersweet for us..

bitter for Dane, sweet for me.

Don't get me wrong, I love going to the games with him, watching football highlights etc.. 

but I do get excited when I can see the light at the end of the tunnel that won't revolve around football talk.

Today was the UTAH vs BYU game up at the U

We sat with his dad and brother and they were awesome seats (*thanks!*)

The game was fun.. freezing-- but fun. Both teams looked horrible but the Utes won at the very end 17-16.

byu was to kick a field goal --a couple seconds on the clock-- and everyone thought it was over. Dane told me to grab my bag so we could get out of there after byu kicked it in for the win. We were all prepared and then Utah blocked a kick. Everyone went nuts! Dane's face was classic-- I love when he's happy. 

Did I mention how cold it was? Snow below our feet! I had 6 layers on my top-- 2 layers on my bottom-- gloves-- hat-- neck warmer-- blanket- and hand warmers. 

I was still cold! burrr!

there is a storm on the way.

everything has been shutting down today to prep.

My work left at 2, U of U closed down around 2, church offices closed at 1, UVU and BYU also closed. They are saying it is supposed to be one of the worst storms Utah has seen in years. 

Just in time for Thanksgiving and some of the most traveled days of the year. I hope everyone can get where they need to go safely!

also.. when Dane was gone at Notre Dame a coupe weeks ago I decided to put shelves up all by myself in our dining room.. what do ya think?

I am becoming a once a month blogger! 

I finally uploaded pictures from the past month or so

Dane took me out on a wonderful date to cafe trio. 

delicious! it was so yummy and so much fun to go out once in a while. I loved this date with dane. He looks so handsome huh?

The next event we had together that I took my camera out for was the blackout Utah vs. tcu football game. This is when tcu was ranked 4th i think and Utah ranked 5th... both undefeated.

lets just say that the game didn't go so well.. but it was still fun for the first 15 minutes :)

The following week Dane went up to Notre Dame game with his dad. He has always wanted to see touchdown jesus...

he got his wish. 

Just this past week Harry Potter 7 (part 1) came out

amazing!

We are obsessed and love the movie

It was his brothers birthday and we went to the midnight showing. 

We were exhausted but it was worth it to stay up until 3 AM

plus dane had to finish a paper after the movie..

still catching up..

just this last weekend we went out to Market Street Grill right across the street for dinner. Walking through the snow (more on that later).. 

we got some crabcakes and clam chowder. Mmm!

We went to Market Street with some of our best friends.. Jaci and Reily. They are hilarious and always make us laugh.. always a fun time with those two.

after dinner the utah football game was on but I was in the mood to learn how to make my first pie. So i went on pioneerwoman and found a pumpkin cream pie she makes. It is actually really good! 

by the way i watched pioneerwoman in the throw down with bobby flay.

It was cute.. you should watch it. I love her

last last week - this week

I haven't blogged in forever, I just am having more fun reading everyone else that blogs at the moment :)

There are a couple of reasons that are possible for not blogging:

1. I am super busy and stressed with school

2. Nothing has been happening

or

3. I haven't taken any pictures recently

This time it is a combination of all three of those. Who really wants to read about school and work? I don't want to do school, let alone read about it again.

We have just been busy with everyday things...

here's a little recap

2 weeks ago Dane did take me out to Cafe Trio for dinner and it was fabulous, we had such a great time and he is so sweet to take me out. Last weekend we went out with some of our friends to see the movie Salt in the $ theater. I really liked it, those spy-type movies are always fun. After the movie we hit up the training table to compare their cheese fries with Hires (hires wins). 

I don't know if many of you knew this but Dane loves football (everyone should know this) and his family does Fantasy Football every year.

I joined in this year and it has become a small obsession. I know NOTHING about football teams/players/ nothing. But for some reason I am winning and taking names every week.

(dane promised me a cheesefry from Hires if I beat him this weekend)

I know I am speaking too soon --my winning streak has to end sometime but I hope it doesn't. I would love nothing more if Danes Mom or I won the fantasy football league this year :) we are already on the right track.

This weekend we have the Barton Halloween party, that will be fun. And the Utah football game at home. It has been over a month since we have been to a home game--I don't know how Dane has been surviving. before the game I am hoping to get out the a pumpkin patch and pick a few pumpkins with some friends, go to the game, then carve them later that night. 

I just need to find a good pumpkin patch in Salt Lake.

oh and don't even get me started on this song by Billy Joel. If I would blast this through out my apartment everyday that would be just fine by me.

I am no Billy Joel fanatic but those songs are so fun. I love "Still Rock and Roll to Me" especially when it talks about the cars and clothes. My favorite line... "Should I try and be a straight A student... if you are then you think to much."

ok ok. I was kidding.

We didn't start the Fire is another good one (but gets old after a minute) and the only three I like today.

birthday/sick but fun weekend

Dane's birthday was on Friday, I cooked him one of his favorites (chicken pillows) and later left for his brothers football game. On Saturday we went to the Utah football game in the afternoon (they won) then after went back to our place for a dinner-birthday get together for dane. It was fun to have some old and new friends there. We love Danes friends :) and Dane was such a good sport because through all of this he was not feeling well. (poor guy--on his birthday) 

we had spaghetti and homemade meatballs (recipe from my mom), burned garlic bread (i forgot about it) loft house cookies (danes favorite) and bean dip (from Ann)

(Recipe for Bean Dip *for melanie*)

1 can Refried beans

8 oz Cream Cheese

1 cup salsa

8oz Sour Cream

blend in blender

add shredded cheddar cheese - reblend

bake at 350 for 20 minutes

easy.

Sunday we went to Danes parents house for Dane favorite curry soup dinner (It was very good and creamy) and had cake with the Van Ry side. We had a very fun weekend :) 

now that the weekend is over, Dane is still feeling sick but recovering and now I am feeling terrible today. So in between reading for American Heritage (blah) I copied this picture.. 

I like to look through etsy and I found this and copied it

definitely not as good as the original :) hah definitely not. but it was fun and passed the time being sick.

I think I took a crazy pill this morning

because I got up before 6 to go to a cycle class.

For me, that is very--very rare.

I went with my friends Amanda and Melanie (thanks for getting me out of bed!!) and boy was it a different workout from anything that I have done.

I liked it though, it was nice to get up and go workout early and get to work. I loved how the lights were still off while we worked out so it didn't shock me seeing that much light that early.

There is only one problem.. my rear is a little sore and tender today.

If only they had cushy seats :) perfect.

Ute game and Boating

We have had a great weekend and we still have monday with no work and no class to go!

We went to the Utah football game Thursday night and boy did that get intense towards the end or what? 

Dane could barely handle it. 

The Utes won in overtime and we have a blast. We sat next to our new friends

They were so nice to let us sneak down to their seats on the 6th row compared to our real seats in row 65 or higher. Thanks you two!

On Friday we went to Dane's little brother Sean's football game at woods cross. He is a sophomore and so fun to watch. He is such a big 15 year old too that he dominates. He had some pretty spectacular plays, the first was a fake play that the quarterback threw to him and he threw a 70-yard touchdown. 

Later in the game he had an amazing catch. 2 guys were on him and the qb threw it and he caught it and just bolted away to score a touchdown. It was fun to see and see how proud Dane is of his little brother. He gets so excited for him. cute.

On Saturday Amanda and Sam entertained us some more and we went boating with them early in the morning. It was so much fun! I am not a huge boating girl but I am loving it so far. They invited another couple from the ward Jill and James and the four of them are tons of fun.

they had a wakesurf and I was able to try it. It was definitely a different feeling from surfing but wakesurfing was pretty awesome. We loved that

artweekend in SLC

I am very excited about the art weekend in salt lake coming in october.

Lately I have been craving some sort of artistic outlet and this will be perfect.

I enrolled in 3 classes (sorry dane--**I told him I would just pick two**)

But I couldnt help it, I wish I could have picked all of them. There are atleast 4 others I am dying to try.

I start on Friday, the 8th and I am taking an Illustrator Basics class

I have been itching to learn more about illustrator and I am looking forward to this

The only bummer.. they are on CS5 now--I only have CS3-I am outdated.

The other class that I wasn't planning on taking is a Calligraphy class on Saturday the 9th.

Ya, sounds old and boring but look how cute it can be

doesn't that look so fun? I can write cute YoungWomen handouts, or make something fun.. I just thought I would never have the option to take a class like this again. So why not!?

the last class I am taking is Watercolors. I love painting (I am not good at all) but there is something so relaxing about it that it is fun for me to do. I have painted with watercolor but I wasnt paying attention to techniques or anything. I am looking forward to this watercolor class so I can mess around and have an excuse to get new art supplies :)

a new addition to our family..

yay for new jobs

I got not just one but two new jobs this semester.

one problem is that they kind of clash with each other because I'll be working at

but hey--- they are close to my home and works perfect with my school schedule :)

I start next week.. wish me luck!

We were in California all last week and it was so much fun

I love going home.

We loved it so much that we even sold our jack johnson tickets so we could stay longer.

On Mondays during the summer my family has been going down to San Onofre (Sano) for the past 10 years. It is one of my favorite things.. watching the sunset, surfing, volleyball, smores, food and friends.

We also went one night with my parents and tess to the play In the Heights. A very fun and up beat play. Thanks Mom and Dad for letting us come home. It was so much fun!

When we got back to Utah we started to get back to reality with starting new jobs, selling/buying cars, and had an evening to spare at the Dave Matthews Band concert. It was so good. I never really listened to them before but Dane likes them a lot. So I got him tickets a while ago and the music was awesome.
